Samsung sells 1,400 WiMax stations to Saudi operator

June 15, 2017

Samsung is to provide Saudi Arabia-based mobile operator Etihad Etisalat with WiMax products and services.

Under the terms of the $100 million deal, Samsung will provide Etihad Etisalat, also known as Mobily, with WiMax Wave2 base stations, area service network gateways, and related equipment and services.

Samsung will deliver 1,400 new base stations, increasing Mobily’s total number of WiMax stations to 1,800.

The agreement enables Mobily to extend its high-speed broadband services to 20 cities across Saudi Arabia, up from its previous provision to just four cities.

The network will be the biggest of its kind in the Middle East, both in terms of geographic coverage and user capacity, Samsung said.

“We will invest all our efforts into making Mobily the main driver for leading technology adoption and evolution in the Middle East,” a Samsung spokesperson added.

Mobily is financing the expansion through a syndicated loan.
